This is the heart of the cattle ranching industry of Nebraska. Halsy is best known as the home of the Nebraska National Forest, Bessey Tree Nursery, and Bessey OHV Trail System which is one of the few public access lands that allows 4-wheelers and ATV's.
The Nebraska National Forest and Grasslands at Halsey offers 141,000 acres for hunting, camping, hiking, horseback riding, and OHV trails. The public lands extend from the Middle Loup River on the north to the Dismal River on the south.
